The U.S. government protects its interest at all costs. The French government
does the same. The moral concerns do not seem to bother them. In the cold,
cold world that we live in, their approach might be the right one - I hope
not.
The real problem is, the Koreans do not seem to know this. They believe -
without even thinking - that these western powers are benevolent and that
they will never harm us. That, I am said to point out, is not true. The case
and point is the French nuclear testing in the Pacific. The Austrailians and
the New Zealander are vehemently against the testing, but the French insists
on going ahead with the testing. Who is know whether the Americans will one
day say, "Hey, the nuclear testing is safe, but we don't want to do it on -
or under- American soil. So, Korea, why don't you let us do it on the
peninsula?" You think the idea is ridiculous? The Amercans never uttered one
word of condemnation towards the French testing.
The Korean government, along with others that do not have nuclear weapons
arsernal, should insist that the nuclear powers get rid of their own nuclear
weapons. Does the Korean government have the guts? I hope so.
Bye the way, for those who are wondering, I am a graduate student whose
interests range from computers to politics, economics and law. Bye.
